The missing link is the keyword "DisplayLink"! A "DisplayPort alt mode" USB-C to HDMI cablevision would be cheaper and smaler, but this DisplayLink dongle does the job, besides! :skilful:XZ1 does NOT support MHL and DisplayPort-over-USB-C HDMI adapters.
"WAVLINK UG-3501H" (DisplayLink certified dl-3500 chipset) + USB-A to USB-C adapter/cable
After installing the app "DisplayLink Presenter" and a reboot, the film was shown via HDMI.
I tested the this device with these smartphones:

Maybe you can attempt to use a USB blazon C docking station which supports DisplayLink. eBay and Amazon are total of DisplayLink adapters and docking stations.XZ1 does NOT support MHL and DisplayPort-over-USB-C HDMI adapters.
In order to apply a hub, you need a kernel that allows to active USB host style and charging at the same time! Only aforementioned custom kernels allow this combination.

But,
For Sony = WAVLINK UG-3501H == 26-39$
For Samsung Galaxy S8 / S8+ Plus / Macbook/huawei mate10 P20 (pro) = USB-C Blazon-C to HDMI == vi-xviii$
